About Sonia: Your Neighbor in the State House

Forty-five years ago, Sonia arrived in this country with a heart full of hope and a deep belief in the promise of the American Dream. That journey—from an immigrant student to a fi nancial professional and classroom teacher—is the foundation of her commitment to you. Sonia is running for the State House to ensure that the same opportunities she found are protected and expanded for every family in Richland County.

The Fix

Sonia believes that you cannot fi x a system you haven't lived in. While many in Columbia look at our community through the lens of partisan politics, Sonia looks at it through the lens of the classroom and the neighborhood. As an Honors U.S. History and Constitution teacher in Richland School District Two, she has seen our children's potential fi rsthand. Her "Inside-Out Fix" focuses on what truly matters: empowering parents, supporting our educators, and returning to the foundational basics of reading, writing, and critical thinking to prepare our children for the future.

Professional Expertise, Family Focus

With a career that spans the trading fl oors of Merrill Lynch and high-stakes legal consulting, Sonia brings a level of fi nancial and operational expertise rarely seen in state government. Armed with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) and a Master of Arts in Public Policy, she has the "forensic skills" to be a watchdog for your family’s budget. Sonia understands that the struggles facing our district—from rising property taxes to neighborhood stability—require disciplined, common-sense management. She is ready to ensure your tax dollars are treated with respect and directed toward results that keep our community safe and prosperous.

Leading with a Servant’s Heart

Sonia’s commitment to service is rooted in her faith and her incredible story of resilience. As a Christian and a neighbor, she believes in leading with empathy and grace. She is running to be a voice for fairness, a fi ghter for the future of our children, and a champion for every resident in District 78.
